2011 Tourism Roundup a Success!
The 2011 NACOG Tourism Roundup was a resounding success in a beautiful setting – the Young Life Center in Williams. Thanks again to the staff of Young Life, Bearizona, Mayor John Moore, and all of the staff and volunteers who contributed to a very productive program. The Roundup was a great time for sharing ideas, renewing friendships, making new connections and now it is time to find new ways to partner throughout our multi-county region to grow our tourism economy. Part of that strategy comes through political action and the following information is important to share with your stakeholders.
Lodging & Tourism Industry Working to Become a Super PAC (Political Action Committee)
&Tourism industry recently learned the hard way the impact that legislation and public policy can have on our industry and livelihoods. The process of influencing legislation is often tied to an industry’s organizational efforts and their willingness to support candidates financially. For these reasons, we have a Lodging and Tourism Political Action Committee (PAC), which donates funds to those candidates who show support and understanding of the value of tourism to our state.
A Super PAC is a group that collects personal contributions from at least 500 residents of voting age. There are currently only 24 Super PACs in Arizona and we believe now is the time for us to strive to join this exclusive group and rise above the fray to have our industry voices heard by elected officials. Structuring a Super PAC for Arizona’s lodging and tourism industry sends and important message of our voting power and also exemplifies that we are engaged in the policy that shapes our state’s future.
As an industry that employs almost 200,000 Arizonans, this is an achievable goal – but we need your help! Please review the Super PAC guidelines below and join us by pledging your support today - sending in your form AND spreading the word. Now is the time to demonstrate the strength and importance of our industry to the Arizona elected leaders.
Super PAC Criteria:
- At least 500 people contributing a minimum of $10 each
- Contributions must be personal and voluntary (political contributions are not tax deductible)
- Anyone can contribute - NOT limited to hotel or tourism employees
- Contributors must be of voting age and must sign their form
Please spread the word to colleagues, family and friends in Arizona and help us meet this important goal! Contact Debbie Johnson at djohnson@azhla.com with any questions.
Thank you for your support of Arizona Tourism!
